Choosing a rig
Which DOF Reality model should I buy?
For most people, the H3. We rate the DOF Reality H3 our best value, from about $3,985 (October 2026), and recommend it more than any other rig. Our other picks: the M2 as a starter, the P3e as the best all around rig, and the M2 or MP2e for tight spaces.
DOF Reality or Next Level Racing motion?
DOF Hero and Pro platforms move the seat, wheel and pedals together; the NLR Motion Platform V3 moves only the seat. The NLR V3, from about $3,377 (October 2026), mounts inside an NLR cockpit, so it suits people who already own one. With no cockpit yet, compare it with a DOF H3, which moves your wheel and pedals too.
Is DOF Reality worth it?
It is worth it if you want the whole cockpit to move with you, with room to add axes later. Every Hero and Pro platform includes the steel rig, motors, control unit, SimRacingStudio license and a manufacturer warranty of one year. Upgrade kits add axes later, so your first platform does not lock you in.
Can I add axes later?
Yes; DOF upgrade kits add axes to an H or P platform, and the M2 can move up into the Hero line. Upgrade kits run from about $1,466 (H2 to H3) to $5,990 (P3 to P6), with US and Canada freight included (October 2026). Each kit adds the extra motors, frame parts and a new control box, and we confirm the exact kit for your unit.
What is the weight limit?
DOF H2 to H4 platforms take up to 330 lb (150 kg); the H6 takes 375 lb and every Pro model 440 lb. The M2 and MP2e seat movers take 220 lb (100 kg), and the NLR Motion V3 takes 130 kg (about 285 lb). If you are close to 330 lb, DOF recommends the Pro P2e or P3e.
I am tall. Will I fit?
Check the reach numbers against your height before you order. On DOF's 6DOF frame, seat back to pedal plate is 905 mm, extendable to 980 mm. NLR's GTElite and GTLite Pro cockpits list users from 120 to 210 cm; for other models, ask SDP Support.
Cost and budget
How much does a motion sim rig cost?
Seat movers start from about $2,018 and full motion platforms run from about $3,235 to $11,753 (October 2026). Those prices are for the motion rig, from the M2 through the H2 to the P6e; the seat, wheel and pedals are extra. An H3 with a DOF seat and a MOZA R5 wheel and pedal bundle comes to about $4,991.
What is the least expensive way to feel the car?
Bass shakers are the first step, but they vibrate rather than move you. A Trak Racer amplifier with two bass shakers is about $199 (October 2026). For real motion, the DOF M2 seat mover starts from about $2,018.
What does a complete DOF Reality setup cost?
Our example builds run from about $4,241 to $10,270 before PC and display (October 2026). The lower build is an H2, a DOF seat and a MOZA R5 wheel and pedal bundle. The upper one is an H6, a Sparco R100 seat, a MOZA R9 GS bundle, a harness and an eBrake.
How much is a static rig by comparison?
Static cockpits cost far less: the NLR GTLite is about $229 (October 2026). A Trak Racer TR40S plus a MOZA R3 PC bundle comes to about $628. The TR8 PRO with wheel, wheelbase and pedals starts from about $3,424.
Should I buy an H4 now or upgrade an H3 later?
If you know you want heave, buying the H4 now costs less. An H3 plus the H3 to H4 kit totals about $6,494, which is about $1,292 more than an H4 at about $5,202 (October 2026). Upgrading later makes sense if you want to spread the cost or try 3DOF first.
Is shipping included in the price?
For DOF Reality platforms and upgrade kits, yes: freight to the US and Canada is included. Depending on your country, the carrier may bill import processing fees at delivery; they are never charged at checkout. For NLR items, the shipping rate shows at checkout.
Can I pay over time?
Yes, financing is offered at checkout. Shop Pay Installments, provided by Affirm, offers monthly plans on orders of $1,000 and up, if approved; plans and terms depend on your cart total and eligibility.
Rates from 0-36% APR. Payment options through Shop Pay Installments are subject to an eligibility check and are provided by these lending partners: affirm.com/lenders. Options depend on your purchase amount, and a down payment may be required. State notices to consumers: affirm.com/licenses.
Space and room
How much floor space does a motion rig need?
DOF full platforms need about 2 x 5 ft for 2DOF models, up to 4 x 5 ft for 6DOF. The H3 and H4 need about 3 x 5 ft, and every platform stands about 2 ft high. Seat movers mount under the seat instead: the M2 on a cockpit you own, the NLR V3 inside an NLR cockpit.
Which motion rig fits a small room?
For tight spaces, we point people to the DOF M2 or MP2e seat movers. The M2 base is about 8 x 16.5 x 16.5 in and mounts under the seat of a cockpit you already own. The NLR Motion V3 fits inside an NLR cockpit; either way, you still need floor space for the cockpit.
Is a motion rig loud?
No maker publishes a decibel figure for these rigs, so go by their descriptions. Our Hero listings call the motion "clean and quiet rather than buzzy"; NLR calls its V3 the quietest in its class. DOF's rubber floor mat, from about $233 (October 2026), is made for sound isolation and floor protection.
Can I move the rig out of the way?
Yes, DOF sells transportation wheels so you can roll the rig aside. Wheel kits cost about $49 for 2DOF and 3DOF rigs and about $253 for 6DOF (October 2026). For a static rig, NLR's GTLite Pro folds and has roller wheels built in.
How motion works
What do 2DOF, 3DOF, 4DOF and 6DOF mean?
The number is how many ways the rig can move you. 2DOF is pitch and roll for braking, acceleration and cornering lean; 3DOF adds yaw for traction loss; 4DOF adds heave for bumps and curbs. 6DOF adds surge and sway, sliding you forward, back and side to side.
Is 2DOF enough, or do I need 3DOF?
For racing, 2DOF covers pitch and roll, the two cues we consider most important for lap time. 3DOF adds yaw, so you feel rear traction loss in oversteer, drifts and coordinated turns. Adding axes never removes a sensation, and DOF says the H3 was historically its top selling model.
What does heave add?
Heave moves the whole platform up and down, for curbs, bumps, runway texture and turbulence. The H4 keeps the H3's 3 x 5 ft footprint and adds heave as a fourth axis. DOF says the H4 gives about 80% of the H6 experience; at October 2026 store prices it costs about 60% as much.
Seat mover or full platform: what is the difference?
A seat mover moves only your seat; a full platform moves the seat, wheel and pedals together. The DOF M2 costs less than any full platform, but the cues can feel slightly disconnected, since your hands and feet stay put. DOF says that if you need a new frame anyway, a frame plus an M2 costs almost the same as an H2.
What is the difference between Hero and Pro?
Pro rigs move about 50% faster, take more weight, and are built for arcades and daily heavy use. Hero moves at 50 cm/s and takes 330 lb (375 on the H6); Pro moves at 75 cm/s and takes 440 lb. For home sessions of 3 to 4 hours, DOF says the Hero versions perform exceptionally well.
Is a motion rig worth it?
It is worth it if you want to feel what the car is doing, not only see it. A rig cannot hold sustained g forces; it tilts you so gravity presses you into the seat, then jolts you for shifts and curbs. If you are unsure, SDP Support offers a free consultation and will tell you when a smaller rig is the right call.
Will a motion rig make me motion sick?
DOF says motion platforms significantly reduce VR motion sickness. Its reasoning is that sickness comes from your eyes seeing movement your body does not feel. NLR's Motion V3 manual still advises a break of 10 minutes every hour, and stopping if you feel dizzy or sick.
PC, console, VR and games
Do I need a PC?
For the full experience, yes: a Windows PC runs 60+ racing and 27+ flight titles, each tuned per game. On console, a Windows PC on the same network relays motion for supported games, or the DOF MagicBox does it without a PC. The NLR Motion V3 runs on a Windows PC.
Does it work with PS5?
Partly: DOF platforms move with PlayStation games that send motion data, such as the F1 series and Gran Turismo 7 (listed as experimental). A Windows PC on the same network relays the motion, or the DOF MagicBox, about $209 (October 2026), replaces the PC. The MagicBox carries motion only, so your wheel and pedals must work with the console on their own.
Does it work with Xbox?
Yes for Xbox games that send motion data, such as Forza Motorsport, Forza Horizon 4 and 5, and F1. It connects the same way, through a Windows PC on your network or the DOF MagicBox. For the wheel, the MOZA R3 Xbox bundle, about $361 (October 2026), works on Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One and PC.
Does it work with VR?
Yes, with motion compensation that keeps the VR image steady while the rig moves. DOF rigs use OpenVR Motion Compensation, set up once for both racing and flight. Tested headsets include Valve Index, HTC Vive, Pimax, Meta Quest and HP Reverb G2; the NLR V3 has its own VR compensation built in.
Can I use triple monitors?
Yes, on a freestanding stand placed off the platform so the image stays still. Trak Racer freestanding triple monitor stands start from about $359 (October 2026). For one screen that moves with you, the DOF Monitor Mount, about $127, holds a VESA monitor on the rig.
Which games are supported?
On a Windows PC, DOF rigs support 60+ racing titles and 27+ flight titles. Racing includes iRacing, Assetto Corsa Competizione, Automobilista 2, rFactor 2, F1 and Forza; flight includes MSFS 2024, DCS World and War Thunder. Truck and farming sims such as Euro Truck Simulator 2 and Farming Simulator 25 work too.
I fly more than I race. Which version do I need?
Pick an r version: the H2r, H3r, H4r or H6r. Their extra smooth gearbox is tuned for slow, precise flight and helicopter moves, adding about $210 to $630 over racing (October 2026). We also recommend an r for mixed racing and flight, and the HOTAS Mounts Kit, about $127, moves your stick and throttle with you.
Setup and everyday use
What comes in the box?
DOF Hero and Pro platforms ship with the steel rig, motors, control unit, SimRacingStudio license and assembly tools. The rig takes normal or F1 style seating, and your seat bolts on directly or on sliding rails. The M2 and MP2e include the motion seat base, control unit, license and tools; the NLR V3 ships with cables and a software download.
What else do I need to buy?
A seat, a wheel and pedals (or flight controls), a screen or VR headset, and a Windows PC or a console with the MagicBox. You can reuse a seat you already own if it fits standard mounting. The DOF seat is about $454, and MOZA wheel and pedal bundles for DOF rigs start from about $552 (October 2026).
How hard is assembly, and how long does it take?
It bolts together with the included tools, and most builders are up and running in an afternoon. There is no welding or wiring, and most people work solo or with a helper for the heavier sections. Then install SimRacingStudio on a Windows PC, connect by USB, and plug into a standard 100 to 240V outlet.
Can I put my existing cockpit on a DOF platform?
No, only your seat moves over. Your wheel, pedals and shifter mount to DOF's own frame. To keep a compatible cockpit, mount an M2 under its seat instead.
Will my direct drive wheel and load cell pedals work?
Yes: on DOF full platforms, the wheelbase and pedals bolt to one rigid frame and stay planted under hard motion. DOF says its frame has held 19 kg direct drive wheels without issues and works with virtually any controllers. Anything extra on the moving platform must be balanced.
Delivery, returns and warranty
How long does delivery take?
DOF platforms are built to order and typically arrive 4 to 6 weeks from your order; with a hard deadline, ask SDP Support first. Trak Racer typically dispatches in 1 to 2 business days, then about 5 to 10 business days in transit. NLR ships within 5 business days, then typically 2 to 4 in transit.
How does a DOF rig arrive?
H and P platforms arrive disassembled in two boxes, insured and tracked door to door. A 3DOF rig comes in boxes of about 78 and 97 lb, and a 6DOF in about 133 and 144 lb. Plan a hand truck or a second person; the M2 and MP2e ship in one box of about 73 lb.
Will I pay import duties?
Not on Trak Racer or NLR orders, which ship within the US with no import duties. Every DOF rig ships insured from our European manufacturing partner, so the carrier may bill import processing fees at delivery, depending on your country. Those fees are never charged at checkout; ask SDP Support for a landed cost estimate before you order.
What happens if it arrives damaged?
Photograph the item and packaging and contact us within 48 hours; it is resolved at no cost to you. Shipments are fully insured, and we work with you and the carrier on the claim. On delivery day, photograph any box damage before signing and confirm both boxes arrived.
Can I return a DOF platform?
Not for a change of mind once we place your order with the manufacturer, because each platform is built to order. Before that point, you can cancel for a full refund.
What is the warranty?
Every DOF platform includes one year of manufacturer warranty on the motors, gearboxes, control unit, frame, wiring and USB. An Extended +1 Year option brings it to two years; ask SDP Support for the price. NLR's Motion V3 carries two years for home use; Trak Racer covers rigs for at least 12 months, up to 5 years.
